What Is Descript?

Descript is an AI-powered platform for editing video, audio, and podcasts.

Unlike traditional editing software that relies primarily on a timeline, Descript allows many types of spoken content to be edited in a way that feels similar to editing a text document.

This can make editing faster for podcasts, interviews, tutorials, educational videos, and other speech-based content.

Video & Audio Editing

Descript can be used to edit video and audio within the same workspace.

Common tasks include:

• Cutting video sections.
• Removing parts of recordings.
• Rearranging clips.
• Editing audio.
• Adding text.
• Preparing social media videos.
• Editing podcast episodes.
• Speeding up review and editing workflows.

Text-Based Editing

One of Descript's key features is the ability to work with recorded content through its associated transcript.

This is particularly useful for:

• Podcasts.
• Interviews.
• Talking Head Videos.
• Tutorials.
• Educational Videos.
• Business Content.

Instead of manually searching through a long timeline, users can work with the transcript to locate and edit specific sections more quickly.

Transcription, Subtitles & Captions

Descript includes speech-to-text tools that can help create Transcripts, Subtitles, and Captions.

These can be used for:

• Adding captions to videos.
• Creating subtitles.
• Extracting text from recordings.
• Reviewing podcast content.
• Repurposing content for other platforms.

Transcription accuracy depends on recording quality, language, accent, and background noise.

Underlord - AI-Powered Editing Assistant

The plan includes access to Underlord according to the features currently available with the subscription.

Underlord is an AI-powered assistant inside Descript designed to help accelerate content editing and production tasks.

It can assist with:

• Video editing.

The offered plan includes 30 Hours of Media Usage per Month plus 5 Additional Hours according to the offer details.

This provides capacity for multiple videos, recordings, and podcast projects throughout the month.

Note: Media usage calculations are subject to Descript's current usage system and plan configuration.

800 Monthly AI Credits

The subscription includes 800 AI Credits per Month plus 500 Additional Credits.

Eligible projects can be exported without the Descript watermark according to plan capabilities.

Stock Media Library

Descript provides access to available stock assets and media resources according to the subscription and licensing terms associated with each resource.

Is Descript an Alternative to Premiere Pro?

It depends on the project.

Descript is especially strong for speech-based content, podcasts, interviews, educational videos, and fast text-based AI-assisted editing.

Projects requiring highly complex cinematic editing, advanced compositing, or professional color grading may still require specialized software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Descript can also be used to accelerate the first stages of editing before finishing a project in another application when required.

Who Is It Suitable For?

• Content Creators.
• YouTubers.
• Podcasters.
• Video Editors.
• Media Companies.
• Studios.
• Marketers.
